In yet another controversial suggestion, Elon Musk asked his followers if users banned from twitter should go back to the social network. The new poll launched by the billionaire on the social network on Wednesday (23) already accumulates 3.1 million votes – the majority in favor of the return of suspended profiles.

“Should Twitter offer a general amnesty for suspended accounts, as long as they haven’t broken the law or engaged in blatant spam?” The “official pardon” has already been granted to some influential people, such as former US President Donald Trump and rapper Kanye West.

Rehabilitating suspended accounts on Twitter would be another critical decision for content moderation on the social network. The decision could cause even more companies to give up advertising on the platform and exacerbate the apparent relationship problems with Apple’s App Store.

Making the discussion even more serious: Elon Musk does not even specify which laws will be analyzed when reactivating suspended accounts – nor how Twitter will evaluate so many profiles. The return of accounts can bring to light users who spread false news or spread hate speech on the social network.

Elon Musk’s Mess

Since taking the helm of Twitter, Elon Musk has been an agent of chaos on and off the social network. The businessman dismissed most of the company’s employees (including service providers) and even asked some employees to return to work later.

The debut of Twitter Blue with verification seal, also an idea of Elon Musk, generated an absolute disorder outside the social network. Countless malicious users have used the opportunity to easily use the authentication tag to impersonate companies, politicians, influencers and governments. The idea, obviously, did not last long: the service was suspended days later and there is no forecast for the relaunch.
